With an investment of US$1.2 billion and after 36 months of construction, the natural gas plant of Generatora Gatún came into operation on October 1, which will provide 670 MW to the national electricity system representing a crucial advance for the energy diversification of the country.
Esteban Barrientos, CEO of the company, highlighted the relevance of this project, describing it as “a historic day for Panama” and underlining the plant’s commitment to sustainability, reliability and operational excellence. In addition, construction generated more than 3,000 jobs, strengthening the local economic impact.
Generatora Gatún not only ensures a stable and reliable energy supply, but also promotes Panama’s economic growth and sustainable development, consolidating its role as an essential pillar in the country’s infrastructure.
