President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen signed a decree that establishes the guidelines for the development and promotion of microelectronics and semiconductor activity in Panama, the decree lays the foundations for creating a strategy and a national action plan in a coordinated and long-term way.
The strategy seeks to insert Panama into the global chain of microelectronics and semiconductors, taking advantage of the country’s competitive advantages, such as its privileged geographical location and its advanced logistics infrastructure.
It is intended to train and develop human talent in the areas of microelectronics and semiconductors to meet the demands of the sector and encourage innovation.
The strategy also seeks to stimulate research and development related to the manufacture of semiconductors, promoting inter-institutional and multisectoral collaboration through the Commission for Innovation in Microelectronics and Semiconductors.
It was also reported that international collaboration programs will be established, including scholarship agreements with institutions such as Arizona State University, to facilitate specialized training in microelectronics and semiconductors.
Panama has been selected by the United States as one of the seven countries worldwide to collaborate in the strengthening of the global semiconductor value chain, which demonstrates the international recognition of the country’s initiatives in this area.
These strategies aim to transform Panama into an important center of innovation and development in the field of microelectronics and semiconductors, taking advantage of its resources and international collaborations to boost economic growth and job creation.
