The International Organization for Migration (IOM), will establish its Regional Office in Panama City, as a meeting point for the convergence and strengthening of relations with the Member States of the Organization, from July 1, 2024.
This decision was made after the Director General of IOM, Amy Pope, in consultation with the Member States, decided to merge the Regional Offices currently located in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in San José, Costa Rica, in Panama City.
In this sense, IOM informed the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Panama to the United Nations and the other International Organizations in Geneva and states that Director General Pope is carrying out a restructuring process at the global and regional level to achieve more efficient assistance to the Member States of the Organization.
From July 1, the Regional Office in Panama will be in charge of supervising and monitoring the activities and programs of the IOM in the Americas, thus, the entity will value the support of the Panamanian authorities for the facilitation of the visas corresponding to officials in the new Regional Office, as well as other logistical aspects related to the transfer of files and assets.
This new IOM office, which will operate from July 1, 2024, will strengthen relations and mutual cooperation in the field of migration with the Member States of the Organization.
How appropriate for the IOM to headquarter in Panama. This organization is one of the main protagonists in facilitating illegal immigration to the United States. Their funding should be shut off.
