More than US$8 million has been invested in the plan to support small Panamanian producers

The Panamanian Government has invested US$8,158,113.32 in the Arought Plan that is 80% implemented, for the strengthening of the agricultural sector and small producers, in the face of the climatic conditions that affect the country.

The Plan is executed with an allocated budget of US$10 million was launched after a National Environmental Emergency was decreed, to support small producers to face the climatic variability and the El Niño Phenomenon, with the construction of watering holes, wells, machinery and equipment, production roads and delivery of inputs.

The Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, indicated that climate variability is here to stay, so it is necessary to continue strengthening the drought Plan that has been implemented in all the provinces of the country.

Regarding the watering holes, he explained that in the provinces of Los Santos, Herrera, Veraguas and Coclé, which make up part of the Dry Arch, the project for a large total of 1,334 watering holes, between built and rehabilitated, is about to be completed.

In total, 2,095 producers throughout the country have benefited with a watering hole, in addition, 5,500 with full fertilizer and 2,600 beneficiaries with grass seed.

On the other hand, work on projects intended for water harvesting, such as irrigation systems, mini dams, masonry repair and rimmed wells, bring great progress.
