Energy digitization in Panama would prevent it from becoming a hotter country

News from Panama / Saturday, October 28th, 2023

Panama must digitize its electricity to avoid becoming a hotter country, since this way it could measure energy and take action, recommended in an interview with ANPanama, the vice president of Schneider Electric Centroaméricala María José Bazo.

He assured that Panama is a country that has many construction structures and many industries, and if it does not manage to get the country to digitize electricity, it will continue to enter into global warming issues and that means that the country will become much hotter.

“It is important for Panama and for any other country in the world, to digitize energy because it can be measured and taken actions and if it is not measured, you cannot take actions,” Bazo stressed.

Bazo assured that Panama is distinguished by a promising future in energy sustainability, which according to the operator of the Regional Electricity Market (EOR), it is projected that renewable energy will cover 79% of the demand in the region in 2023.

He mentioned that Panama has initiated an Energy Transition Agenda to reduce fossil fuels and combat climate change, so the National Energy Plan 2015-2050 (PEN) seeks to achieve 70% renewable energy in the country’s energy matrix.

“In 2022, the Electric Mobility law was approved, reinforcing the commitment to decarbonization, in this regional and national approach to clean energy it supports the implementation of Electricity 4.0.

Bazo explained that Electricity 4.0 represents a fundamental evolution in the way energy is conceived and used, in essence, intelligent energy combines advances in electrification and digitization to create cleaner, more efficient and integrated solutions in our cities and industry.

“This technological revolution not only promotes greater efficiency in energy generation and distribution, but also allows for greater control and monitoring in real time,” Bazo said.

For its part, the digitization of energy through advanced sensors and systems provides crucial data that helps cities and companies make more informed decisions to manage and monitor it, reducing energy waste.

Bazo highlights the relevance of this initiative by stating that: “We are the generation that is facing one of the greatest challenges in the history of humanity, which is climate change. It is a responsibility that we do not ask for, but we must do it to leave a planet to the next generations, to our children. Climate change must be controlled and there are technologies with which it can be achieved.”
