The Deputy Foreign Minister of Panama Vladimir Franco, assured that the country aspires to be a leader in the Global Green Hydrogen Route and advances in consolidating itself as the main center of storage, commercialization and transformation of this resource in Latin America.
The Panamanian official gave his statements, during the Third Forum on the “Belt Initiatives and the New Silk Road” (BRI Green), under the slogan: “The green silk route for harmony with nature” that China carried out.
During his speech, Vice Chancellor Franco said that Panama’s firm conviction lies in the fact that together we can draw a path that prioritizes conservation and sustainability for the next generations. Franco led an official Panamanian mission in China from the 15th to the 20th of this month.
The vice-chancellor also highlighted the country’s commitment to environmental protection in favor of the preservation of the oceans and the promotion of the Blue Agenda; allowing it to be one of the three countries that have achieved carbon negative status, and to be recognized as a “Blue Leader” internationally.
In this sense, he reiterated that the Forum functioned as an unbeatable opportunity to reflect, exchange experiences and, above all, commit ourselves to a more balanced world and in agreement with nature.
He also stressed the impact that development must have to promote opportunities in the countries of origin of the massive flows of people and discourage irregular migration that is also affecting the environment.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Strip and Road initiative for International Cooperation is an example of how through co-responsibility between countries a real commitment to global environmental responsibility can be achieved.
He also stated that after the recent ratification of the National Green Hydrogen Strategy and its derivatives in 2023, Panama reaffirms its drive for the use of green hydrogen products in key areas such as maritime and air transport.
