Currently, the Penal Code establishes that whoever causes the death of another shall be punished with imprisonment from 10 to 20 years.
In the proposal, elaborated after an inter-institutional work between the Ministry of Government and the Ministry of Public Security, it is added that it will be punished with 20 to 30 years of imprisonment when the crime of homicide is executed ‘in the person of a sworn guard of a private security agency, in performance of his duties’.
According to the arguments of the initiative, in recent years, the Central American country has been impacted by acts of violence resulting in the loss of human lives.
