Coordinator of that group, Humberto Perez, told Prensa Latina that the campaign is symbolically called “From Colón to La Coloma,” alluding to the major free zone of Panama and a Pinar del Rio town, which was heavily hit by this hurricane.

They are calling on all sectors, solidarity, religious, business organizations to be able to collect various construction materials, household supplies and electrical appliances, among others, that might be necessary in these difficult times in the homeland amid an intense recovery period, he said.

Perez, who is also the president of the Jose Marti Association of Cuban Residents in Panama, said that they are preparing a container with all that cargo to be distributed and are collaborating with the Proyecto Cabildo Quisicuaba in Cuba, a religious institution whose motto is “Luz y amor” (Light and Love).

“Pinar del Rio needs us today and, as usually, we will unconditionally support our sisters and brothers,” he stressed.

Pinar del Rio province is making progress in the recovery after Hurricane Ian passed through that territory in the early hours of September 27.

This weather phenomenon made landfall in the locality of La Coloma and left the country through Puerto Esperanza. During its passage, it seriously damaged the housing and telecommunications infrastructure, the power grid and water supply to the population.
