Exports from Panama grew 80% in the first five months of the year

Exports of products without copper increased 6.7%, reporting a figure of $297.5 million, which represents 24% of total exports.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama (MICI) reported that during the first months of 2021 there was an 80% growth in exports.

According to the latest report from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, this represents a total FOB value of $1.245 billion, and an increase in absolute values ??by $554.2 million compared to the same period of 2020 when $690.4 million.

The MICI indicates that exports of copper and its derivatives grew between January and May 2021 by 130%, reaching the figure of $947.1 million, which represents 76% of total exports of goods, having as main destinations: Asian countries , Europe, and Latin America.

Meanwhile, exports of products without copper increased 6.7%, reporting a figure of $297.5 million, which represents 24% of exports, with the United States being the main destination for exports, followed by the Netherlands, India, Costa Rica, Mexico, United Kingdom, China, Thailand and Taiwan.

“Products with good performance compared to the previous year: fish and fish fillet (+ 11%), palm oil (+ 52%), teak wood (+ 42.6%), fresh watermelons (+ 16.6%), medicines ( + 4.5%), shrimp (+ 36%), pumpkin (+ 130%), meat and chicken food preparations (+ 25%), portland cement + 100%, lubricating oils (+ 62%), polymer-based paints acrylics (+ 100%), metallic waste (+ 59%) ”, details the MICI.
