Central America: E-Commerce Still Gaining Ground

News from Panama / Monday, October 19th, 2020

In the new normal, interest in e-commerce in the region’s markets continues to rise, with Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama being the countries that recorded the greatest increases in interactions associated with the topic.

Through a system that monitors in real time changes in consumer interests and preferences in Central American countries, developed by CentralAmericaData, it is possible to project short and long term demand trends for the different products, sectors and markets operating in the region.

The interactive information system details that in the Guatemalan market the theme of e-commerce services has reported a sustained increase since March 15. The increase was maintained until the end of August.

The case of El Salvador is similar to that of Guatemala, as since February 2020, interest in e-commerce has registered a sustained increase. In the Honduran market, interactions in the digital environment began to increase as of March 1 and by early September the trend continued.

In Panama, the trend is that from mid-March onwards, interactions associated with the topic rebounded. In Costa Rica, from June 21, the interest in E-commerce increased considerably.
