Hipódromo Presidente Remón has been approved by the Panama Gaming Control Board (JCJ) to offer online horse race wagering when the racecourse resumes activities on October 1. In order to meet the health protocol, the Panama City facility is also modifying its existing stores for in-person betting.

JCJ executive secretary Manuel Sánchez said that “the national government is helping modernise the horse racing sector, something that is needed.” Users will be able to bet on national races after completing the registration process. In addition, it will make foreign bets on the racecourse.

“Around 7,000 workers from the horse racing industry are ready for activities to launch on October 1. Without betting there’s no races, so we’re taking the necessary steps along with the Ministry of Health, we’re visiting shops where it will be allowed to bet, but people won’t be able to stay there, they won’t be able to sit,” he added.

The racecourse of Presidente Remón also disclosed that a drill was carried out on 21 August, in which the authorities determined that they were compliant with all the security measures laid down by the Ministry of Health.

“The national government and the horse racing authorities from Panama have done a great job. The industry complies with all the biosecurity measures, but in case they fail to do so, we will proceed with the Ministry and we will suspend the races, because the most important thing is to safeguard the health of Panamanians, employees and the public,” added Sánchez.
