Epidemiologist Rodrigo DeAntonio, who studies the behavior of health indicators as part of the multidisciplinary group created, considered that beyond the number of cases, the most important thing is to ensure that the Health system does not get saturated and pointed out that the fact that the average number of patients in intensive care has decreased is a positive thing.
Health Minister Rosario Turner, who heads the group tasked with fighting the pandemic, made harsh criticism last Monday for the relaxation of the total quarantine, which led to an increase in the number of infected.
Due to this, it is expected that total immobility will be decreed for citizens starting next Friday, with no exceptions, not even to go shopping.
The minister clarified that the quarantine has not ended and that in some way there was a distortion in the message, referring, without explicitly mentioning it, to the announcement that Panama plans the economic revival, even though days before authorities assured that ‘the worst is yet to come’.
Jorge Luis Prosperi, former representative of the Pan American Health Organization, told the La Prensa newspaper that authorities are investigating whether this increase in cases is related to a specific area, or if they are new outbreaks, because community transmission is taking place with the same intensity as before.
The expert mentioned places where massive contagion took place, requiring sanitary cordons, and predicted that perhaps the situation is located in a so-called cluster and not necessarily throughout the country.
