Caterpillar, Volkswagen and AB InBev are the Latin America growth winners among multinationals.

US-based equipment maker Caterpillar posted the strongest Latin Americarevenue growth among multinationals last year, according to the Latin Multinational Index from Latin Business Chronicle.

Other major stars last year include Germany-based Volkswagen, Belgium-based AB InBev and US-based NII Holdings, Whirlpool and Ford.

The Latin Multinational Index tracks quarterly performance of 23 multinational companies operating inLatin America measuring their revenues in dollar terms. The fourth quarter index grew by 14.6 percent. That compares with an average global revenues increase of 9.3 percent for the companies, showing how key Latin America has become for boosting growth.

For the year, the companies on the index grew an average of 16.1 percent. That was nearly twice the global average. The multinationals on the index derive anywhere from 7.7 percent to 100 percent of their total revenues from Latin America, with the average being 19.4 percent.
