Senate President attends FOPREL meeting in Panama

President of the Senate, Lee Mark Chang, is in Panama attending the 37th meeting of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL). The meeting’s highlight took place on January 30th, with an official handing over ceremony of the organization’s Pro Team Presidency from the congress of Honduras to the National Assembly of Panama.

At the ceremony, the representatives of congresses and National Assemblies from Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Mexico and Belize approved seven motion relating to legislative frameworks on areas including climate change and exploitation of child labor among other issues.

The dignitaries also discussed and approved a strategic plan for 2019. The Inter Parliamentary Committee on Migration of FOPREL, which is chaired by the Senate of Mexico also met and approved a resolution relating to the issue of migration. A report on the current legislations that member countries of FOPREL have on migration was also presented. Chang is being accompanied by Clarita Pech, Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.
