Panama: $100 Million for Infrastructure

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a loan to finance the construction of infrastructure to reduce flooding and make urban improvements in the Juan Díaz River basin.

The Panama Mayor’s Office informed that the resources will be used in three components. A first component of Flood Mitigation Infrastructure; a second component to improve the quality of public spaces; and a third component that will support the sustainability of the investments foreseen in components one and two, and the capacities of the Municipality of Panama to carry out the integral management of the basin during this program.

From the statement of the Panama Mayor’s Office:

The Mayor’s Office of Panama follows up the Governance of the City with the Resilient Urban Basin Program – Juan Diaz River, through which consolidates its initiatives to contribute to the sustainable improvement of socio-environmental and urban conditions of the population of the Juan Diaz River Basin through actions for flood prevention and mitigation.

In addition to prevention and mitigation actions, the program’s objectives include improving quality and access to public space, as well as emphasizing capacity building for water and territorial management in the basin area.
