Coca-Cola bottler buys Grupo Industrias Lacteas

News from Panama / Friday, May 13th, 2011

Bloomberg Businessweek reported this recent acquisition.  I have been following the dairy industry here in Panama for years and believe this to be a profitable area for investment.  The term cash-cow originated here.  Where else can you close a deal on Monday and Tuesday get a check when the milk truck shows up for a pick up and Thursday and the next Tuesday, etc.  There are government subsidized loan programs with 2 to 3 % interest, 15 year amortization and abatement of any payment for the first 12 months.  Also, as an ag business, you can avoid any income taxation.  Let me know if you are interested as we have several dairy operations we are looking at right now.

Anyway, here is the story from Bloomberg.

One of Coca-Cola Co.’s largest bottlers, Coca-Cola FEMSA S.A.B. de C.V. said that it has acquired Grupo Industrias Lacteas, a dairy and juice company in Panama.

The companies did not disclose the value of the deal.

Coca-Cola FEMSA said the deal allows it to expand it juice-based business and enter the milk and value-added dairy products category, a fast-growing industry in Latin America.

Grupo Industrias Lacteas reported revenue of $140.9 million in 2010, according to the bottler. It has three manufacturing plants and close to 1,800 employees.

The beverage bottler and Coca-Cola Co. will begin integrating the business in April.
