Panama, US plan collaboration on energy projects

News from Panama / Tuesday, August 28th, 2018

The Panamanian government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US officials to increase energy cooperation, including on renewables.

In addition to renewables, the sectors to be promoted by both nations are energy efficiency, energy storage, distribution, transmission, as well as investment in infrastructure, the local government stated on Friday.

According to Panama’s Secretary of Energy, Victor Urrutia, this agreement is “the first step to develop a Technical Cooperation initiative designed to strengthen and promote investment in infrastructure related to the energy sector”.

The government will be creating a work group made up of technical personnel from the country’s Secretary of Energy, the Department of Energy and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Panama as well as from the US’s Department of the Treasury, it noted.
