Between January and July the value of new construction, additions and repairs totaled $1.3 billion, almost 33% more than in the same period in 2016.

Although builders have complained about the high costs of materials and labor, and the bureaucracy they face when processing projects, new construction continues to grow.

Data from the Comptroller General’s Office shows that the value of new construction, additions and repairs from January to July reached $1.3 billion, led by the province of Panama, with $923 million, followed distantly by Arraiján, with $100 million, Colón with $99 million, La Chorrera with $84 million, and David, with $60 million. The other provinces registered values lower than $22 million. The figures do not include the district of San Miguelito.

Regarding the type of construction, new constructions, additions and repairs were registered for $810 million in residential projects, and $500 million in non-residential projects.
