News from Panama / Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

This is another reason to celebrate life here in Panama and that is its local products.  Here in Boquete we are the bread basket for the rest of the country where almost 80% of the produce consumed in Panama comes from farms in our region of Chiriqui.  Fresh fruit and vegetables are literally fresh and full of flavor.

Here in a press release is that the Henesy-Rodriguez Group is doing to further that cause.

Panama City, Panama, January 07, 2011 –(PR.com)– Furthering its ongoing efforts to integrate the concept of “thinking globally and eating locally” into Latin American culture, Henesy-Rodriguez Group (HRG) recently formalized its partnership with Biogranjas, an organic farm in the nearby Cocle province. This addition to its current programs, such as its internal recycling system and the Smithsonian’s Futuro Forestal reforestation project, will allow HRG to continue minimizing its carbon footprint.

“As the owners of three of the most highly-regarded restaurants in Panama, we believe it is our duty to ensure that everything we do sets a positive example in how it affects this developing region,” says founder David Henesy, who has been operating upscale restaurants and hotels for more than thirty years.

“The partnership with Biogranjas is extremely exciting because it helps us fulfill our social and environmental responsibilities. Through our work with (Biogranjas owner) Jesus Armenteros we will be not only bringing farm-fresh ingredients to our customers, but also benefiting the local economy and reducing the need for imported foods, thus cutting down our usage of transportation fuel.”

HRG is already known for seeking out the freshest ingredients for its clients and their sophisticated palates. In the next two years, however, they hope to take this practice to the next level, aiming to raise 80% of their ingredients locally. This includes the organic vegetables, microgreens, and Certified Humane chickens provided by Biogranjas, the production of which will increase rapidly in the coming months as a result of this collaboration.
