The mayoral office of Panama has announced that the contract awarded to Odebrecht to improve the Via España has been endorsed by the Comptroller.
The information was confirmed by Mayor Jose Isabel Blandon, while the Secretary General of the Municipality of Panama, Guillermo Bermudez, “… said that the order to proceed may be delivered next week.”

Prensa.com reports that “… he also explained that corrections were made to the contract requested by the Comptroller, such as changing the performance bond from 20% to 50% and eliminating a clause stating that if the company finished the work ahead of schedule it will receive $1 million.”
The tender had been suspended by the Directorate General of Public Procurement, after the consortium Espacios Públicos Vía España, consisting of Meco and Rodsa, complained that Odebrecht had not met the mandatory minimum requirements to execute the work.
