Panama will attend the Climate Summit and its delegation will be led by President Juan Carlos Varela, who will arrive in Paris on November 28, despite the emergency current situation in  France due to the terrorist attacks.

The announcement, made by the president himself when addressing reporters, included statements about the latest events in the French capital and the number of the dead caused by the suicide attacks.

Security measures were immediately taken in airports, harbors, the Panama Canal and some diplomatic missions of the countries chiefly committed to the international coalition which is fighting the Islamic State (IS). The president also gave instructions to increase security in some Panamanian embassies.

Varela confirmed that flights between the two countries continue and no Panamanian citizens living or visiting Paris were reported killed or injured in the attack.

The president said that he is in contact with his country’s representation in France and many Panamanians who were on a visit to France started to return home.

The presence in the Summit, apart from being an expression of solidarity with the French people, is of special interest for Panama, a nation seriously affected by climate change.(Prensa Latina)
