condado de rey

Can you spell “over built”.  Floods that have caused serious damage are forcing a review of the geology of the area and its ability to support new infrastructure.

While preparations are being made for a new general plan of pending and existing works, the Municipality of Panama has suspended permits for 50 residential, commercial and mixed building constructions in Ancon.

The decision to suspend the works came after floods, which occurred a few days ago, revealed a lack of resistance on the part of new buildings in the area that were developed in recent years. The Mayor of Panama will create a new urban plan of the area to define the needs in terms of infrastructure and establish rules for its orderly development.

Prensa.com reports that “… The Mayor of Panama is working on a plan which includes all of the buildings that are established in the area and those that are scheduled to be built, in order to look at them holistically, said Manuel Trute, director of Urban Planning for the capital city. He added that they will verify the characteristics and the capacity of the original design of the area, and how it has changed over time. “Once this aspect is clear, there will be greater scientific understanding of what the current load capacity is of Condado del Rey and the surrounding areas, such as Altos de Panama and Linda Vista, and then [we can] establish rules that will permit the orderly development of the site, so that it does not pose a risk to the community ‘. “
