Airport authorities are preparing a plan to develop infrastructure for a free trade zone in an area measuring 70 hectares.

The increase in cargo volume and the demands of logistics and transport have led to Panamanian authorities at Tocumen International Airport to propose two alternatives for the development of a free zone within the terminal.

Martesfinanciero.com reports that “… One option is that the administration will only develop infrastructure with businesses creating their own hangars. The other option is to provide everything, infrastructure, road networks and hangars for entrepreneurs to set up their offices, but as yet the business model has not been decided on, the plan is expected to be completed in four to six months . ”

‘… There are companies dedicated to serving chilled food for aircraft who are interested in the free zone, as well as companies selling medicines, spare parts and hi-tech goods, fishery and agricultural products, among other things. Next year major investments are expected, attracted by the free zone project, which involves tax incentives for businesses.”
