$22M worth of cocaine seized at sea near Panama

The cocaine pipeline to the United States took another hit.

Crews assigned to the National Air Security Operations Center-Jacksonville seized $22 million worth of cocaine at sea earlier this month.

Authorities on patrol in waters near Panama spotted a 25-foot go-fast boat with three people on board. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the suspected smugglers dumped their cargo and escaped.

Authorities secured the floating bales of cocaine which weighed nearly 1,700 pounds.

The Border Patrol said Air and Marine Operations in Fiscal Year 2018 led to the seizure or disruption of 283,503 pounds of cocaine; 301,553 pounds of marijuana; 180,444 pounds of methamphetamine; 872 weapons and $34.2 million. AMO enforcement actions also facilitated 2,373 arrests and 47,744 apprehensions of undocumented aliens.
