By now it’s no secret that Panama offers endless opportunities for adventure.
The list of pulse-pounding land- and sea-based activities available to visitors seemingly goes on forever, but one of the most popular is snorkeling. After all, it’s relatively easy to do but also extremely rewarding.
The diverse marine life in Panama, as well as the destination’s numerous coral reefs and renowned clear, turquoise waters, make it a snorkeler’s paradise.
If you’re looking to take a peek below the sea surface on your next visit, consider one of these fantastic spots:
San Blas Islands
The San Blas Islands are an archipelago comprising hundreds of islands and cays, a majority of which are uninhabited. The region offers plenty of beautiful shallow reefs to choose from but snorkelers especially won’t want to miss the shipwreck near Isla Perro.
Bocas del Toro
This island chain off of Panama’s Caribbean Coast is arguably home to the country’s best snorkeling. Red Frog Beach stands out in particular as visitors can explore turtles, eagle rays and much more with minimal effort.
Places such as Admiral Bay and Hospital Point are unlikely to disappoint either.
Isla de Coiba
Located off of Panama’s Pacific Coast, Coiba Island is also celebrated for its wide array of marine life. The Bahia Damas Reef in Coiba National Park is one of the largest in Central America and is known as a phenomenal place to see manta rays, sharks and tuna as well as several dolphin and whale species.
Visitors can also go scuba diving in the reef. However, arrangements must be made through the professional dive operations that service the park area to ensure the environment remains protected.
