The Chriqui Coast and Boca Chica<\/h2>\n

Located just below the Costa Rican border on the westernmost of Panama, the province of Chiriqui is one of Panama\u2019s great natural treasures.\u00a0 Within its borders lie an incredible coastal region and two national parks one of which is Coiba Island that was identified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2005.\u00a0 Coiba is the largest of over 50 mostly uninhabited islands off the Chiriqui Coast.\u00a0 The islands are situated offshore of a 100 mile estuary system within the boundaries of the Golfo de Chiriqui Marine Park which insulates the archipelago from the influences of the mainland. \u00a0It is an incredibly diverse ecology of birds, plants, fish and, increasingly, eco-tourist visitors\u2014and hence a true source of wealth for the Republic of Panama.<\/p>\n

Within an hour and a half you can also be in the mountains enjoying the higher altitude\u00a0cool climate of Boquete. \u00a0 Boquete has been written up in newspapers around the world.\u00a0 It\u2019s eternal spring weather, jagged peaks, rivers, waterfalls proximity to excellent shopping and health care has made this a perfect place to visit.\u00a0 Boquete is home to the second national park in Chiriqui, the Volcan Baru\u00a0national Park and the\u00a0La Amistad National Park which stretches its way across the mountains into Costa Rica.<\/p>\n

<\/em>This diverse geographic area is just now being discovered and with the expansion of the International Airport in David, and a new 4 lane highway to the highland town of Boquete, it is surely to grow and become a major tourist destination in Central America.<\/em><\/p>\n

Located just an hour from David, the capital of the Chiriqui province lies the area of Boca Chica namesake for the little fishing village where the residents live a quiet, peaceful life. This tiny pueblo is at the end of the road and where the vast Pacific Ocean begins. \u00a0\u00a0In 2007 everything about Boca Chica began to change significantly, beginning with a smooth two-lane asphalt road that was completed a year later. Eventually will come the inevitable rush of tourists, developers and entrepreneurs into the once reclusive area.<\/p>\n

The barrier islands that surround the approach to this little village protect it from the aggressive wind and water conditions sometimes encountered on the open ocean. Here one finds a quiet, peaceful, deep water anchorage that serves both local and transiting boats alike. Big game and commercial fishing have long been the main boating activities of Boca Chica, but it is really a center for all types of boats. \u00a0It is also a perfect place for cruising sailors to come and enjoy some of the treats not available while at sea, i.e. cold beer, clean laundry and hot, fresh water showers! However, Boca Chica is more than a stopover for passing cruisers and put in place for local fishermen. It is also a gateway\u2014a gateway to a world of adventure that starts with the\u00a0hundreds of tropical islands just beyond the end of the road.<\/p>\n

General Information of the Boca Chica Area<\/p>\n
