{"id":36978,"date":"2025-04-25T20:18:30","date_gmt":"2025-04-26T01:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/?p=36978"},"modified":"2025-04-25T20:18:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T01:18:30","slug":"minsa-adds-20-new-drugs-to-the-discount-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/minsa-adds-20-new-drugs-to-the-discount-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Minsa adds 20 new drugs to the discount program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Health (Minsa), through its National Directorate of Medicines and Supplies, announced the incorporation of\u00a0<strong>20 new medicines\u00a0<\/strong>to the drug program with reduced prices in public pharmacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this third phase, the list reaches a total of&nbsp;<strong>60&nbsp;<\/strong>available&nbsp;<strong>medicines&nbsp;<\/strong>with&nbsp;<strong>discounts of up to 94%&nbsp;<\/strong>with respect to commercial market prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The measure seeks to&nbsp;<strong>facilitate access to essential treatments&nbsp;<\/strong>for thousands of Panamanians, especially those who suffer from common diseases such as&nbsp;<strong>diabetes, high blood pressure, flu<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third phase is added to the\u00a0<strong>40 molecules\u00a0<\/strong>already included in the months of\u00a0<strong>February and March<\/strong>, as part of the government&#8217;s commitment to strengthen access to health through strategies of\u00a0<strong>accessibility and savings for the population<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minsa reported that discounted medicines can be purchased in more than&nbsp;<strong>100 public pharmacies&nbsp;<\/strong>distributed throughout the national territory, facilitating coverage for urban and rural communities alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To purchase medicines, citizens must present:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Personal identity card<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Current medical prescription<\/strong>, issued by a doctor from the Minsa or the Social Security Fund (CSS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition,&nbsp;<strong>patients from private clinics&nbsp;<\/strong>can also access the benefit by presenting their private medical prescription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his weekly conference, the President of the Republic,&nbsp;<strong>Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Mulino Quintero<\/strong>, reiterated that his administration will continue to expand this program, with priority in the medicines&nbsp;<strong>most used by the population<\/strong>, and announced that&nbsp;<strong>more drugs&nbsp;<\/strong>will soon be added&nbsp;to the official list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ultimate goal of the plan is&nbsp;<strong>to achieve more than 200 affordable medicines<\/strong>, as part of a public health policy focused on equity and cost reduction for patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-patient-reaction\"><strong>Patient reaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the citizens, it is recognized that&nbsp;<strong>having medicines at very affordable prices is an important achievement<\/strong>. This was stated by a&nbsp;<strong>representative of the National Federation of Associations of Critical, Chronic and Degenerative Diseases<\/strong>, Enma Pinz\u00f3n, who also urged the authorities to implement&nbsp;<strong>dissemination programs&nbsp;<\/strong>that clearly inform which drugs are included in the program and the mechanisms to access them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also expressed concern about the sustainability of the long-term plan and called for transparency on&nbsp;<strong>the financing mechanism<\/strong>, to prevent this
