Given this situation, no extension was granted to the\u00a0safe conduct\u00a0<\/strong>and the former president will remain in asylum in the\u00a0Nicaraguan embassy in Panama.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n “As a result of the lack of response, despite the fact that all the documentation requested by the Nicaraguan government was sent through formal channels, the safe-conduct has reached its expiration date,<\/em>” highlights the statement from the Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The government of Panama stressed in the statement that the lack of response from the government of Nicaragua does not affect the recognition of diplomatic asylum and that it remains in force and will be respected by the Panamanian authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
