With the aim of improving the quality of the electrical service through the implementation of digital monitoring and control systems, as well as the autonomy and restoration capacity of distribution and transmission networks, the National Secretariat of Energy (SNE), presented the Roadmap for the Digitization of the Electricity Sector in Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, with this digitization it is expected to improve the estimation of customers’ electricity consumption and optimize their reconnection times, through the increase of intelligent measurement; guarantee cybersecurity in the electricity sector; build the capacities of the human resource; encourage the development of new business models and reinforce control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary of Energy, Rosilena Lindo, explained that according to the goals, they emphasize that by 2030, implement advanced digital monitoring and control systems in at least 80% of the medium and low voltage electricity network, compared to 2023; by the year 2035, increase the autonomy and restoration capacity of transmission and distribution networks incorporating advanced artificial intelligence equipment and systems in at least 10% of transmission substations and 30% of distribution substations, compared to 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Develop and execute a continuous training program that increases by 50% the number of certified professionals in emerging technologies and intelligence systems in the transmission and distribution company by 2030,” Lindo added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For its part, the Roadmap proposes 24 lines of action in response to 8 strategic objectives to improve the sector, involving multiple actors and establishing a specific schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is important to note that the actions include the implementation of digital systems to monitor and control the quality of electrical service, which requires collaboration with distribution companies and manufacturers to install these technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will also focus on increasing the autonomy and resilience of electricity networks through smart equipment, in collaboration with technology developers and regulatory entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary of Energy said that the Panamanian energy transition is being a transition that transforms and de-carbonizes the electricity generation matrix, and that it is advancing in an unstoppable way growing in knowledge and encouraging innovation opportunities for current professionals in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Digitalization is one of the pillars of the transformation of the energy system, to integrate even more renewable energies into the economic activities that are developed in the country,” said Lindo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
