{"id":35541,"date":"2024-05-10T18:35:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T23:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/?p=35541"},"modified":"2024-05-10T18:43:36","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T23:43:36","slug":"the-president-elect-of-panama-wants-to-negotiate-a-free-trade-agreement-with-mercosur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/the-president-elect-of-panama-wants-to-negotiate-a-free-trade-agreement-with-mercosur\/","title":{"rendered":"The president-elect of Panama wants to negotiate a FTA with Mercosur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The elected president of&nbsp;<strong>Panama<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Mulino<\/strong>, said that he spoke with the president of&nbsp;<strong>Brazil<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Lula da Silva<\/strong>, after his victory and that they addressed the possibility of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ambito.com\/uruguay\/el-primer-ministro-japon-visito-la-region-la-mira-puesta-un-tlc-el-mercosur-n5993017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Free Trade Agreement (FTA)&nbsp;<\/strong>with&nbsp;<strong>Mercosur<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It will give us an important economic muscle what we can have with that southern economic bloc,&#8221; said Mulino, who will take over on July 1, referring to the possibility of a commercial link with Brazil,&nbsp;<strong>Argentina<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Uruguay&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Paraguay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulino, who denied in his speech being an &#8220;ultra-right&#8221;, also promised to deport migrants who enter the country through the&nbsp;<strong>Dari\u00e9n jungle<\/strong>, bordering&nbsp;<strong>Colombia<\/strong>, on his journey to&nbsp;<strong>the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 520,000 people, mostly Venezuelans, crossed the inhospitable jungle in 2023, which has forced the Panamanian government to allocate resources to assist them. Silva&nbsp;<\/strong>in Brazil, to whom he expressed his intention to &#8220;strengthen&#8221; relations with the regional bloc and take economic cooperation &#8220;to the next level.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercosur recently signed a trade agreement with&nbsp;<strong>Singapore&nbsp;<\/strong>and entered into negotiations with&nbsp;<strong>the United Arab Emirates (UAE),&nbsp;<\/strong>while a resolution in the agreement with the&nbsp;<strong>European Union (EU)&nbsp;<\/strong>is delayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-font-size has-small-font-size\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\"
