However,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/turning-off-tap-end-plastic-pollution-create-circular-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly one-third<\/a>&nbsp;of all plastic is single use,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/report\/mapping-global-plastics-value-chain-and-plastics-losses-environment-particular\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">32 per cent<\/a>&nbsp;contaminates soil and freshwater ecosystems and&nbsp;as much as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/pollution-solution-global-assessment-marine-litter-and-plastic-pollution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10 million tonnes<\/a>&nbsp;are released into the ocean annually, worsening the triple planetary crisis \u2013 climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without decisive action, this is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oecd.org%2Fenvironment%2Fglobal-plastic-waste-set-to-almost-triple-by-2060.htm&amp;data=05%7C01%7Cchi.sung%40un.org%7C976e8ea7070f4036c81308db9da91101%7C0f9e35db544f4f60bdcc5ea416e6dc70%7C0%7C0%7C638277121676417369%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=HIvF68p8K%2FiBforuE0nXpMRIzezy%2F1vQHHWGDJ8R018%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expected to triple&nbsp;<\/a>by 2060. By reimagining our approach to consumption and waste, we can safeguard our marine ecosystems, and empower others across Latin America and the Caribbean to do the same.
