by several people about  the status of the 20 year tax exoneration so I\u00a0 asked my freind in Panama  City what he knew. \u00a0 Kent Davis is well versed in the subject  which is one of the main selling features of a residence in Panama and  one that kept the condo boom alive in the City.\u00a0 Here is what he sent me.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Property Tax:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Law No. 21 of 2008 the tax exemption for property has change as follows:<\/p>\n<p>All of those <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">properties<\/span> which construction permit has been issued from September 2006 and upon the registration of the improvements on the Public Register will be exempt as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Worth<\/span><\/strong><strong> <\/strong> <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tax Exempt<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>US$ 100,000.00\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15 years<\/p>\n<p>US$ 100,000-US$ 250,000.00\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10 years<\/p>\n<p>US$ 250,000.00\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5 years<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Those projects which construction permit is issued before July 1, 2009 and the correspondent improvements are duly register at the Public Register before December 31, 2011 will be tax exempt for 20 years.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you get an appraisal on the property and it does not fall within the exoneration, you\u2019re looking at the following:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"400\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Registered Value of   Property<\/td>\n<td>Yearly Tax 75,000<\/td>\n<td>.90%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>OVER 75,001<\/td>\n<td>1.0%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>A $100,000 property under the alternative property tax calculation would be as follows:<br \/>\n0.00% on the first $30,000\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0= $\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0.00<br \/>\n1.75% on the next $20,000\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0= $140.00<br \/>\n1.95% on the next $25,000\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0= $225.50<br \/>\n2.10% on the next $25,000\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0= $250.00<\/p>\n<p>Total Tax Burden
