{"id":28608,"date":"2020-04-28T12:54:29","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T17:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/?p=28608"},"modified":"2020-04-28T12:54:29","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T17:54:29","slug":"visits-quarantined-shops-trend-reversed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/visits-quarantined-shops-trend-reversed\/","title":{"rendered":"Visits to Quarantined Shops: Is the Trend Reversed?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/shopping-graph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28609\" src=\"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/shopping-graph.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/shopping-graph.jpg 700w, https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/shopping-graph-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Between February 2020 and Easter Week, visits to shops decreased between 40% and 90% in Central American countries, but since April 13 a change in the trend has been observed, reflecting a greater movement of people to shops and other businesses.\u00a0 Panama saw a 83% drop but that was due to very strict quarantine regulations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/prods\/view\/ha-dimensionado-el-impacto-que-tendra-el-coronavirus-en-su-negocio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Information System for the Impact Analysis of Covid-19 on Business<\/u><\/a>&#8220;, prepared by the Trade Intelligence Unit of <strong>CentralAmerica<em>Data<\/em><\/strong>, Costa Rica is the country with the most pronounced change in trend, since as of April 12th the reported drop in physical visits to stores was 79%, while on April 17th the reported reduction was 57% from the levels prior to the health crisis.<\/p>\n<p>This change in the trend in the movement of people to <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"sales\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22sales%22\">sales<\/a> points in Costa Rica is clearly seen in the graph (see blue line).<\/p>\n<p>In the case of <strong>Guatemala<\/strong> (red line in the figure), there is also a slight change in the trend, but not as significant as in Costa Rica. In Guatemala, it went from -69% on April 13 to -63% on April 17. In <strong>Honduras<\/strong> (light blue line), there is no significant change in the trend.<\/p>\n<p>This analysis of population <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"mobility\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22mobility%22\">mobility<\/a> in the <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"Central America\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22Central+America%22\">Central America<\/a>n countries is part of the &#8220;<em><strong>Information System for the Impact Analysis of <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"covid19\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22covid19%22\">Covid-19<\/a> on Business<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;, a tool with
