{"id":23832,"date":"2018-08-13T10:18:28","date_gmt":"2018-08-13T15:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/?p=23832"},"modified":"2018-08-13T10:18:28","modified_gmt":"2018-08-13T15:18:28","slug":"panama-credit-private-sector-continues-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/panama-credit-private-sector-continues-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Panama: Credit to the Private Sector Continues to Rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/growth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23833\" src=\"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/growth.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/growth.jpg 800w, https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/growth-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/growth-768x482.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mortgages and personal loans explained much of the 6% increase in domestic credit to the private sector, recorded between May 2017 and the same month in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">According to the latest report by the Superintendency of Banks, in the fifth month of the year, the private sector&#8217;s credit portfolio totaled $52.167 billion, which is equivalent to an increase of 5.9% compared to the $49.277 billion reported up to May 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Residential mortgages continue to be one types of <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"loans\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22loans%22&amp;q2=mattersInCountry_es_le:%22Panama%22\">loans<\/a> that is maintaining growth in demand.<\/span>\u00a0<span dir=\"ltr\">Up to the end of May, these loans had 7.5% growth.<\/span>\u00a0<span dir=\"ltr\">For the period covered by this report, the balance of mortgage loans granted totaled US $16.431 billion, registering an expansion of US $1.150 billion with respect to the same period last year, the document details.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Consumer loans continued to grow at a sustained rate of 9.5%.<\/span>\u00a0<span dir=\"ltr\">One of the most dynamic segments was the car loan-oriented segment, which grew 3.3% in May 2018 compared to the same month last year.\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Similarly, loans granted by credit cards also showed significant figures, growing by 10%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">See the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.superbancos.gob.pa\/superbancos\/documentos\/financiera_y_estadistica\/reportes_estadisticos\/2018\/IA\/IAB_2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>full report<\/u><\/a>.
