in water consumption is putting pressure on reservoirs and forcing the design of new alternatives for improving infrastructure, starting with the creation of new reservoirs.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Data from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) indicates that 350 million gallons of <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"water\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22water%22&amp;q2=mattersInCountry_es_le:%22Panama%22\">water<\/a> are currently being consumed per day, an amount that it was thought would not be reached until 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Growing demand for power generation, human consumption and activities such as agriculture, have led the authorities to build new water <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"wastewater treatment plant\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22wastewater+treatment+plant%22&amp;q2=mattersInCountry_es_le:%22Panama%22\">treatment plants<\/a>, some of which are still projects in the bidding stage.<\/span>\u00a0<span dir=\"ltr\">But in addition to the plants, new <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"reservoir\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22reservoir%22&amp;q2=mattersInCountry_es_le:%22Panama%22\">reservoirs<\/a> need to be built and improvements made to the management of this resource in order to avoid waste.<\/span>\u00a0<span dir=\"ltr\">For this reason, the ACP is carrying out feasibility studies for reservoirs in strategic watersheds in Panama, Azuero and Veraguas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">See: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/centralamericadata.com\/en\/article\/home\/Inversin_de_239_millones_en_obra_pblica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>$239 million Investment in Public Works<\/u><\/a>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Prensa.com reports that at the moment\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;&#8230; most of the water in the 52 basins and more than 500 rivers in the country is lost without being used.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;<em>&#8230;<\/em><\/span><em>\u00a0<\/em><span dir=\"ltr\"><em>The greatest demand for water is concentrated in the Pacific slope, where 83% of the population lives and where more than 70% of economic activities are concentrated, including the metropolitan region (districts of Panama, San Miguelito, La Chorrera, Arraij\u00e1n and Capira ), where 55% of the country&#8217;s total population lives and where most of the industries and services
