and June 2017, the region imported $590 million worth of mobile phones, 10% more than the imports in the same period in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Main brands \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span dir=\"ltr\">Among the main brands imported into Central America and according to purchase value are <strong>Samsung, Huawei\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0Apple<\/strong>, which together account for approximately 80% of total <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"import\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22import%22\">imports<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">Imports by country<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span dir=\"ltr\">In the first semester of 2017, the main cell phone buyer in <a class=\"hlink\" title=\"Central America\" href=\"https:\/\/www.centralamericadata.com\/en\/search?q1=content_en_le:%22Central+America%22\">Central America<\/a> was Guatemala, with $213 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $147 million, El Salvador, with $83 million, Honduras, with $72 million, Panama, with $46 million and Nicaragua, with $29 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Variation of regional imports<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span dir=\"ltr\">Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017 the value imported into the region grew by 10%, increasing from $537 million to $590 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">US purchases went up 30%, going up from $230 million in the first half of last year, to $298 million in the same period in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">Origin of imports<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span dir=\"ltr\">From January to June 2017, 51% of the value imported in the region came from the USA, 22% from China, 15% from Hong Kong and 8% from Vietnam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">The USA is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most, since in the first half of 2015 it represented 37% of the total value purchased, and in the same period of 2017 this figure rose to 51%.<\/span><br \/>\n\n<div class=\"wpcf7 no-js\" id=\"wpcf7-f16536-o1\" lang=\"\" dir=\"ltr\" data-wpcf7-id=\"16536\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-response\"><p role=\"status\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\"><\/p> <ul><\/ul><\/div>\n<form
