For decades people have been predicting overpopulation would wipe out energy resources if not the entire planet. Every year the population bomb and peak oil crowd have been proven wrong. But how long can the status quo of generating growth by population explosion last?<\/p>\n

Stephen Hawking: Humans have 100 years to find a new planet<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that physicist Stephen Hawking thinks humans are running out of time on planet Earth.<\/p>\n

In a new BBC documentary, Hawking will test his theory that humankind must colonize another planet or perish in the next 100 years. The\u00a0documentary Stephen Hawking: Expedition New Earth<\/em><\/a>, will air this summer as part of BBC\u2019s Tomorrow\u2019s World season and will showcase that Hawking’s aspiration\u00a0“isn\u2019t as fantastical as it sounds<\/a>,” according to BBC.<\/p>\n

For years, Hawking has warned that humankind faces a slew of threats<\/a> ranging from climate change to\u00a0destruction from nuclear war and genetically engineered viruses.<\/p>\n

While things look\u00a0bleak, there is some hope, according to Hawking. Humans must set their sights on another planet or perish on Earth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must also continue to go into space for the future of humanity,\u201d Hawking said during a 2016 speech\u00a0at Britain\u2019s Oxford University Union.<\/p>\n
