{"id":18024,"date":"2016-10-23T10:48:32","date_gmt":"2016-10-23T15:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/?p=18024"},"modified":"2016-10-24T10:16:01","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T15:16:01","slug":"community-resposibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/community-resposibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Community &#8211; Responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Betty-Landis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-18025\" src=\"http:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Betty-Landis.jpg\" alt=\"betty-landis\" width=\"705\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Betty-Landis.jpg 717w, https:\/\/panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Betty-Landis-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meet Betty Landis, President of Boquete Hospice and Health Foundation.\u00a0 I did last week in an attempt to find out more about this great organization.\u00a0 My only contact before was when a neighbor needed a hospital bed for her mother and we went down to their warehouse where they lent it out for free for as long as needed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The organization is made up of two major components, Hospice and Health Services but just as important, there is the equipment loan program and blood donor program.\u00a0 This is very important as Panama does not have blood banks and we must rely upon blood donors when the time arrives.\u00a0 With over 40 active volunteer members and 5 main officers, they service the greater Boquete area and have retired nurses and doctors who provide support.\u00a0 Foreign health workers are not allowed to practice medicine in Panama but they can teach and train others to help on a no fee basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here is where the responsibility part comes in for all members of the community.\u00a0 Each person needs to have a physician who can practice medicine and know of those who can provide <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getpalliativecare.org\/whatis\/\" target=\"_blank\">palliative care<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong>We have several physicians here in Boquete who are fully licensed and some who can administer IV treatment in your home.\u00a0 One has her own ambulance and EMPs on call.\u00a0 While we all may be as healthy as a horse, there may come a time, naturally or by illness when you must call upon a qualified physician.\u00a0 While you might have come here to get &#8220;off the grid&#8221;, it is everyone&#8217;s responsibility to take this seriously and\u00a0 take steps to insure that you do not become a burden on others or leave no records of who to contact in case that time comes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/boquetehospice.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Boquete Hospice and Health Foundation<\/strong><\/a> has a simple Buddy Connection form and this is part of a personal information folder we must each have.\u00a0 Share this form with you buddy&#8217;s here in Boquete.\u00a0 You should list your full name, date of birth, phone number, email and alternatives for each.\u00a0 List the people\u00a0 who are the local\u00a0 contacts in case of an emergency and those who are abroad with their contact information and relationship to you.\u00a0 List 3 contacts for each. \u00a0 List the name of your primary physician and any specialists with their contact information as well.\u00a0 If you have health insurance list the company and policy number.\u00a0 Same goes for your homeowners and car insurance.\u00a0 You should include in your folder\u00a0 a picture of yourself, copy of your passport, driver&#8217;s license and second ID like a cedula.\u00a0 List the meds you take and do not forget any special care needed for your pets too. \u00a0 You might also think about getting a living will here in Panama as the one you might have in the US will not be recognized here.\u00a0 Same goes for your will.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Donate!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Boquete Hospice and Health Foundation is a non-profit foundation and provides its services free of charge.\u00a0 They are currently sustained by the kind and generous community that we serve and in which we live.\u00a0 Donations are very appreciated and can be made by check to &#8220;Boquete Hospice &amp; Health Foundation&#8221;.\u00a0 Checks may be left at Mailboxes, Etc in Boquete. For information on making a donation contact\u00a0 Doug Tyler at\u00a0<a href=\"bjtrdt@gmail.com\">bjtrdt@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0or 6781-9250.\u00a0 They also accept donations of medical equipment and supplies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Mark your calender&#8217;s!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">November 17, 2016 is the date for the organization to make a presentation to community members.
