Ports in a Storm

News from Panama / Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

One of the things that I often miss in commercial real estate back in the US, were the conventions where you could meet with the top people in the field and learn a lot very quickly.  In  a second in a series of posts about the Panama Canal expansion being a “Global game changer” is a newsletter that I  read covering a recent NAIOP convention in Long Beach where  “A hot topic was the Panama Canal expansion, and what it would mean fordistribution centers and other industrial real estate. Experts say the project, which doubles the canal’s capacity to allow more and larger ships, could siphon traffic away from the Port of LA/Long Beach in favor of eastern and Gulf port locations such as New Jersey, Norfolk, Va., and Houston.”
