Panama Canal completion delays until second half of 2015

News from Panama / Monday, November 4th, 2013

When I first came to Panama in 2006, the Nation was set to vote on whether or not to move forward with this project.  Now it is a little over a year and a half from opening, quite an achievement!!

PANAMA CITY, Panama.–The completion date for the locks on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal has been postponed until June 2015, said the Panama Canal Authority.

The previous completion date was April 2015.

The delay was caused by a re-evaluation and modification of the logistics and duration of the locks’ electromechanical works, said the Panama Canal Authority.

As for the locks on the Atlantic side of the Canal, they are still scheduled for completion in March 2015.

Originally, the Panama Canal expansion programme was slated for completion in 2014, but was delayed to April 2015, said a release.
