The purpose of the multimodal logistics center now under construction is to connect the primary customs zone with the Colon area under the same tax regime, and the commercial areas of Coco Solo and Coco Solito.

The construction, being carried out by Constructora Urbana (Cusa SA) must be completed in 18 months. The project consists of building the entrance and exit building to the multimodal logistics center on Randolph Avenue, and the objective is to unify the primary customs zone with the area of Colon under the same tax regime as the expansion areas developed over the last 20 years in Coco Solo and Coco Solito.

A statement issued by the Colon Free Zone (ZLC by its initials in Spanish) states that “…The benefits of this project are to integrate the operations of ports, the Free Zone, the Airport and the Railway, streamline operations in the area, reduce operating costs and contribute to the free movement of goods in order to reduce times. The work will be carried out by Empresa CUSA, S.A. and consists of: the construction of (12) entry and exit gates to the logistics center, administrative buildings and their parking lots, relocation of public utilities and infrastructure, among other things”.

Usha Mayani, president of the Association of Users of the Colon Free Zone, told Prensa.com that “… the investment is positive, but he warned that the existing infrastructure must be addressed and improved. However, he stressed that closing the Randolph Highway and bringing it all together has been a dream of the private sector in the ZLC.”
